Once I was watching a TV program where students were allowed to ask one question to Bill Gates and Warren Buffet.
(The same program I mentioned recently)
One question was
If you could have superpower , what would it be ?
They laughed , and Mr. Bill Gates answered , ” Being able to read fast would be fun”
I mean you read so far up to almost like 10th article of this Training Series, I guess you are good reader like  Bill Gates. 😉
First of all I would like to congratulate you for coming so far.
Sometimes people brag about the stuff ,” Yeah , I never read anything “
Remember the Identity concept, as animation student we must adopt this new identity of OUTSTANDING PRACTICAL READER.
And I’m not saying about novel or comic reading , Its about the incredible information , books about the Animation , about the thing we are passionate about
how can it be boring. And for the research of Career in Animation you will have to read many awesome articles of cool professional animators, riggers.
I know many would love to watch video thing instead of books and that’s awesome too.
Still most of the incredible knowledge , practical things are in books which is yet to be converted in video. Either we can wait for someone to convert those concepts into cool videos or We read ourselves , understand it and actually use it and convert the concepts how to use them practically into Videos. 😉
Videos are definitely great as we directly can see how something we can use directly?
We don’t read sometimes because some books are with good information but we still don’t get it from that how to use the stuff ?
Right?
So I just want to point some things about reading so that this reading tool will produce even more greater results.
One phrase I’m going to use all over this Career In animation Series is
“Information Without Purpose is Useless “
Remember the RPM ,
even in Reading anything , you have got to know What’s your Outcome and Purpose.
Does this ever happened to you , you read a book , it was really good and you still didn’t use anything practically from it.
I know ,I have in past.
While reading anything ,use your Question Tool ,
I have this question for books,
What practical stuff I can find and How can I implement this immediately ?
Its like sometimes we learn new terms , but still doesn’t make any difference. For example we learn this is called as Slow-In’s but we don’t know
how to use it or in Animation story this is SETUP-CONFLICT-RESOLUTION
we can identify them ,the terms , but we don’t know how to use this practically .
Our question should be okay , Good its Conflict ,Now tell me specifically how to use this ? What is the Outcome of it ? How one can use it to make story good?
what are the elements of Conflict (not types)? What its consist of ? What are the exact specific steps to execute it ?
Most of the times in books we just see the definitions of things , but no one tells how to or when to use those tools.
So while reading we must search for the things that the minute we understand it , we can put it in Use. or How we can put into use ?
Another thing about reading is when you read any book , the author always try his best to communicate all the strategies he can.
It doesn’t take that much time read books.
And have this belief ,
If from any book or article , you just learn Single new practical thing, it was totally worth.
Because you just learned investing few hours. But for the same thing to discover author might have took year or years.
We always learn more than one thing , always.
And if we have this question how can use it right now to produce new good results?
Even though the book or information might not practical and just full of definitions and stuff still you find out the way to make that stuff practical.
I mean sometimes some stuff didn’t have any connection to animation story writing whatsoever but as I knew my Purpose and Outcome , I came up with the new strategies with that stuff .
It’s incredible when you use Question Tool , and read with Outcome and purpose in Mind.
Finally the last thing ,
“If you know something and you are not using it , because YOU ACTUALLY DIDN’T UNDERSTAND it !”
Always remember , any particular thing , concept you use in practical not because you know it , but you actually understand it.
And we should not feel bad that we are not using it because we haven’t understood it , instead of that We should find ways to understand it actually ,if we really know its importance.
